Man found guilty of attempted murder in Bushey

Dear Resident

A man has been found guilty of two counts of attempted murder following a shooting in Bushey in September last year.

Almamie Jawara, aged 19, of Leveret Close, Watford, was convicted of two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life at St Albans Crown Court today (Friday 28 March).

Following an eight-day trial, the jury reached unanimous verdicts on all counts.

Jawara was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on 9 June 2025.

An investigation was launched by officers from the new Operation Thwart team who focus on tackling serious street violence, after shots were fired towards an address in Woolmerdine Court at around 4.24pm on Sunday 15 September.

Through enquiries, detectives identified nine shots which had been fired towards the address, with a further two fired towards residents who exited the property.

A number of police resources, including armed officers and the police helicopter were deployed to try and locate the suspect who left on a Sur-Ron style electric motorbike.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Following an extensive investigation, officers arrested and charged Jawara with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life on 26 September.

Detective Sergeant George Lewin, who led the investigation, said: “Jawara’s actions were exceptionally dangerous, and the verdict recognises his repeated intent to end someone’s life. I’m thankful to the jury for reaching their decision and ensuring he will face justice.

“This is the first in a series of serious violence cases the Operation Thwart team has brought to trial as we continue to tackle street violence.

“This outcome reinforces that there is no place for violence in Hertfordshire, and we will continue to do all we can do to make sure those responsible are held accountable.”
