Detectives investigating the death of a man in Hatfield have charged a 16-year-old boy with murder and made a third arrest. At 1.11pm on Sunday (23 March), police received reports of an altercation involving two males at the disused bus stop near Jetliner Way and Parkhouse Court. A man aged in his 20s sustained stab wounds and sadly died at the scene. A 16-year-old boy from Hatfield was arrested in London at 4am on Tuesday 25 March and was taken to hospital for treatment. He was discharged and brought into custody on Wednesday (26 March). Detectives from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit have now charged the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, with murder and possession of an offensive weapon. He has been remanded into custody and is due to appear at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Saturday 29 March). A 17 year old boy from Hatfield was also arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday (Thursday 27 March). He has been bailed with conditions while enquiries continue. A 35-year-old woman who had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender remains on conditional bail pending further enquiries. Detective Chief Inspector Nick Gardner said: “My thoughts remain with the victim’s family at this difficult time, and they are being supported by our officers as they try to come to terms with their loss. “We have now secured a successful charge, and the boy cannot be named due to legal restrictions preventing anyone who is charged with an offence and aged under 18 to be identified. “In order to protect the legal process as this case now moves through the courts, I urge everyone to abide by that law. “If you have any further information on this incident, please report it to the police.” Welwyn Hatfield Chief Inspector Pete Frost said: “This incident has shocked the community and my thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones. Local neighbourhood officers will remain in the area, and if you have any concerns then please do speak to them. “Do not hesitate to get in contact with information that might help.
