Ensuring your car is safe and secure

Dear Resident

Local car crime - Grovehill

In recent days we have had an increase in car crime, which has included theft of items left in vehicles with the doors not locked, and breaking into cars for valuables that can visibly be seen on the front or back seat.

In particular we have had reports of a female trying car door handles in and around the vicinity of Livingstone Walk, although there are reports further afield too.

If you have any information relating to these incidents you can click the reply button at the bottom of this email, or call in one non-emergency number 101.  Alternatively, you can give information anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Please be careful with your vehicles to ensure they are secure.  The tips below are what we advise all car owners:

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

  • Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.
  • Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle
  • When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.
  • Be aware of your keys.  Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.
  • If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag.
  • Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
