Positive Fly Tipping Result in Standon

We've had another fly tipping in East Herts on Tuesday 24th June at 15:55hrs, this time on Dowsetts Lane, Standon. East Herts Rural NPT arrested the driver, for those wondering the offence is 'The Environmental Protection Act 1990, section 33' which creates an offence of depositing or knowingly causing or knowingly permitting waste to be in or on land unless in accordance with the terms of a waste management licence.

Reported via 999 by a local farmer, East Herts Rural NPT deployed immediately from Buntingford. 2 offenders had been disturbed depositing the waste on a bridleway and made off from the scene, the van used was located and this was seized.

The team mobilised and with the help of a Police Volunteer managed to locate a home address of the offender. On arrival he was found exiting the property and was arrested, on searching his mobile home for the 2nd offender who wasnt found, Class A and Class B drugs was located.

The whole team got stuck in, statements were taken, evidence obtained, and the offender was taken to Hatfield Custody. With the evidence being so overwhelming, he took advice from a solicitor and admitted all 3 offences. A Community Resolution was issued for all offences, the Littering Course and the Drug Course awaits. As the offender has no previous convictions we couldn’t consider a punishment more severe.

Once again, fantastic response by everyone involved. With help from a local farmer in handing out some well-earned community resolution who dutifully returned the tipped rubbish back into the van before it was seized and the assistance for our Police Volunteer. Fly Tipping will not be tolerated in East Herts, if the Rural NPT Team are presented with an opportunity to be robust and take positive action we will, East Herts is NOT a soft touch, and the sooner people get the message the better it will be for our Community.
