Rogue Traders - Roofing Services

Dear Resident,

At 12:30PM on Tuesday 24th June 2025 a male has knocked on a victims door in Nursery Road, Stevenage stating a few of their roof tiles looked to be broken.

The male then went onto the roof and started banging. After checking on the male, the victim noticed he had taken tiles off and made a hole in the roof causing damage worth around £350.  The male gave a business leaflet with the company name of APEX ROOFING but the phone number on the leaflet was false.

We are asking residents to remain vigilant against rogue traders after multiple reports have been received for similar incidents across Stevenage. If you have any further information regarding rogue traders in your area please report this to Action Fraud or Trading Standards.

More advice on dealing with unexpected:

‘Not Sure? Don’t Open the Door!

  • Don’t let unknown callers into your home.

  • Find a way to communicate through the door, without opening it, or look through a spy hole.

  • If you think a rogue trader is at the door call the police on 999

  • If you have arranged an appointment with someone, check their ID first before you let them in.

  • Never consider having work done on your house or garden by anyone who knocks on your door.

  • If the services offered cost over £42, the trader must advise you that you have 14 days to cancel the contract and must not start work until after this period, unless you sign a notice agreeing to waive this right.
