Get involved with the Knife Angel |
||
The public are being encouraged to get involved with an exciting project to tackle knife crime in Hertfordshire. The Knife Angel, a national monument which raises awareness of the negative effects of knife crime and violence, is coming to Welwyn Garden City in October. Police and partners want to give the public a chance to get involved. Created by Alfie Bradley at the British Ironwork Centre, the 27-foot sculpture has been crafted from more than 100,000 knives and blades confiscated by the UK's 43 police forces. Welwyn Hatfield Chief Inspector Pete Frost said: “We’re planning a month-long programme of activities, but we want to give you the chance to shape that. “Are you passionate about preventing violence and creating a change within communities? We’d love to hear from you. “Are you the leader of local community group, and would like to arrange a group visit? We want to hear from you too. “We’re also recruiting Anti-Violence Champions. Our Champions will support the Knife Angel and its legacy by standing up against all forms of violent behaviour. “Whilst this initiative is mainly aimed at young people, anyone who wishes to fully renounce violence is welcome to become an Anti-Violence Champion. All our school age Champions will receive a sticker badge and a certificate to thank them for their efforts in standing up against aggressive behaviour. To get involved with the Knife Angel project, email KnifeAngel@herts.police.uk (please note, this email address is not for reporting crime).
