Vehicle Crime

Dear Resident

We’re conducting enquiries following several reports of thefts from motor vehicles across #Dacorum.

While these enquiries are continuing, we’re offering the following advice to residents who may wish to review their vehicle security:

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

  • Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.
  • Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle
  • When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.
  • Be aware of your keys.  Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox or a keyless signal can be received by relay devices.
  • If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers, steering wheel locks or ghost immobilisers.
  • Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
  • If you witness any suspicious activity, please call 999 straight away.

Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activities in the area.

If you need to report a crime please call 101 or go online here.
