Burglar jailed for two and a half years

Dear Resident

A criminal whose offending spanned across three districts in Hertfordshire has been jailed for two and a half years.

Paul Hayward, aged 46, of Stanley Gardens, Borehamwood, appeared at St Albans Crown Court for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to the following crimes:

  • Aggravated vehicle taking (relating to a BMW on Dales Road, Borehamwood, on 18 March 2025)
  • Theft of a BMW and Playstation console from an address in Dales Road, Borehamwood (18 March 2025)
  • Burglary at Co-op on Delta Gain, Carpenders Park (16 March 2025), where a large quantity of cigarettes were stolen.
  • Burglary at Co-op on Watford Road, Rickmansworth (17 March 2025) where a large quantity of cigarettes were stolen.
  • Battery against a member of staff in Boots chemist on the Roaring Meg Retail Park, Stevenage (20 February 2025)
  • Dangerousdriving, driving without insurance, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence and possession of cannabis in Edgware (17 April 2024)
  • In addition to the custodial sentence handed down on Wednesday 9 July, he was also disqualified from driving for 39 months.

    Hayward’s co-defendant received a suspended sentence for his part in the crime spree.

    Liam Lincoln, aged 22, of Hartforde Road, Borehamwood, was handed 8 months suspended for 18 months, with the conditions that he carry out 40 days rehabilitation and 150 hours of unpaid work. He previously pleaded guilty to the following:

  • Burglary at Co-op on Delta Gain, Carpenders Park (16 March 2025)
  • Burglary at Co-op on Watford Road, Rickmansworth (17 March 2025)
  • Theft on Dales Road, Borehamwood (18 March 2025)
  • Investigator Chloe Harding, from the Hertsmere Local Crime Unit, said: “Hayward has shown a flagrant disregard for the law, which is plain to see when looking at the list of offences he was charged with. We are pleased to have achieved a custodial sentence, and we hope that Hayward’s victims are able to move forward with their lives now that he is behind bars.”
