Please beware of these scams targeting Herts residents

Dear Resident

Beware of these scams targeting Herts residents

Scammers have been targeting people in Herts using fake QR codes and winter fuel payment messages, in order to steal banking and personal information from victims.

QR code scams, known as ‘quishing’, is where legitimate QR codes at car parks, parking meters and other insecure areas have been replaced with fake codes. Scanning QR codes in open spaces (like stations and car parks) might be risky. Check for tampered QR code (stickers), if in doubt do not scan them, use a search engine to find the official website or app for the organisation you need to make a payment to. More advice on this scam here: https://orlo.uk/0kbm2

If you get messages saying you need to apply for Winter Fuel Payments, ignore them. These payments are made automatically, you don't need to do anything. If you receive any text messages about these payments, it's a scam. More advice here: https://orlo.uk/moi14

If you think you’ve been a victim of fraud, report it online at Action Fraud or call 0300 123 2040.
