Theft of Motor Vehicle

Dear Resident

Due to recent reports of theft of vehicles from driveways, please read the following advice and share it with friends and family if you feel that they could benefit from it.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

  • Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.
  • Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle
  • When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.
  • Be aware of your keys.  Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox or a keyless signal can be received by relay devices.
  • If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers, steering wheel locks or ghost immobilisers.
  • Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
  • Please be vigilant and report any suspicious activities in the area.

If you need to report a crime please call 999 in an emergency or ongoing crime. Call 101 for any non-emeregency or go online here.
