Dear Resident,
Over the last month, Police have had reports of a number of e-scooters that are being ridden carelessly in Potters Bar, primarily in and around Darkes Lane but also other areas.
This includes riding on the pavement, with multiple passengers and nearly colliding with members of the public.
A reminder to all members of the public that outside of trial zones such as London that these e-scooters are considered motor vehicles under UK Law and liable to all the laws of cars such as Driving with no Insurance, Driving Carelessly and Drink Driving.
E-scooters are not to be ridden anywhere except for private land outside of these trial zones which do not include Potters Bar. Police are aware that Parents also purchase these e-scooters for teenagers as gifts, not being aware of the consequences in UK Law. Teenagers are not exempt from such traffic offences and as such will start any attempt to get a license with points already added, taking any positive chances in adult life they might need for jobs or future study.
Where there are grounds of moving road traffic offences, crime or collisions involving e-scooters, Herts Constabulary will investigate such incidents and prosecute where necessary.
