Police advice event for local businesses

Local businesses will be able to get crime prevention advice from the police at a drop-in session in Welwyn Garden City next week.

Officers are teaming up with the Welwyn Garden City Business Improvement District to host an event aimed at local businesses on Tuesday (19 August).

The event will take place at the Howard Centre and it is one of many running during the summer as part of Hertfordshire’s Safer Town Centres initiative.

Between 11am and 2pm, officers will be on hand in the Howard Centre to give advice on subjects including crime prevention, cyber security, hate crime, Shop Watch and more.

Attendees will be able to discuss issues and access information about how to help protect their businesses from crime and contribute to a safer town centre.

Whilst the event is ongoing, the Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) will visit shops and other businesses in the town centre to share advice with those that cannot attend.

Sergeant Deane Brittain, from the Welwyn Hatfield NPT, said: “We are committed to tackling retail crime and anti-social behaviour in town centres and we hope this event proves useful for local businesses. All Welwyn Hatfield businesses are welcome to attend and if you cannot make it, we encourage you to sign up to Shop Watch. This is an information sharing platform where we issue regular crime prevention advice to businesses.

“Although the event is aimed at the local business community, others will also find it useful to learn about protection from cyber crime. If you would like to come along, please feel free. You’ll also be able to sign up to our messaging platform Herts Connected.”

The event will take place in Unit 23a which is just behind the main atrium on the ground floor of the Howard Centre.

You can also use the Herts Connected platform to let us know what you think we should be prioritising in your area. Your feedback will help towards shaping our local policing priorities, initiatives and campaigns. Visit bit.ly/hertspolice-psf and tell us your thoughts.
