Shoplifting arrests after vehicle stopped in St Albans

Dear Resident,

Local officers from the Neighbourhood Policing and Intervention Response teams stopped a vehicle in Porters Wood, St Albans, shortly after 6pm yesterday (Wednesday 13 August).

Officers were assisted by the local council’s CCTV operators to locate the vehicle following a call from staff at the Waitrose store in Harpenden reporting a theft.

Suspected stolen goods were uncovered inside the vehicle, including cash, chocolate bars, chewing gum, clothing and an electric food mixer.

Two women and one man were arrested on suspicion of theft from a shop in connection with incidents on 22 July, 23 July and 13 August. They remain in custody for questioning.

The vehicle was also seized as it was reportedly being driven without insurance, and enquiries continue.

Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Caro said: “I hope this news is reassuring, and our officers will continue to work with local shops to help tackle shoplifting.

“Shoplifting is not a victimless crime, impacting not only the stores and their employees, but also leads to an increase in prices for all.  Shoplifting continues to be a priority in the St Albans district.”
