Police update

Dear Resident

Following calls from local residents, police were alerted to a “camp” that had been set up in the wooded area opposite Townsend, and on attendance at the location, found two tents, a sofa and numerous items of personal affects. Officers also saw that a nearby street light had been accessed to steal electricity.

Over the following days, police attended the campsite and ID'd various individuals- all known to the police. Both DBC and Highways were notified and official notices for them to leave (Community Protection Notice Warnings) were prepared for serving. Intensive police patrols followed, often several times in the same day, and the following week, when the Warnings were due to be served, the camp had been abandoned.

With the assistance of the local riding stables staff, police removed the bulk of the property and DBC has been alerted to the remaining items.

This is a good example of cooperation between residents, ourselves and the local authorities, and we encourage residents to bring our attention to local issues such as this in the future.
