Good Afternoon Resident August was a particularly busy month for us and we thought we would share some of our highlights, albeit this is not every single incident we attended. As is common for this time of year we have attended multiple reports of hare coursing and other poaching incidents involving the unnecessary deaths of 35 pheasants in rural Ware, the investigation into this is ongoing. We have assisted officers in North Herts with our drone to search for nuisance off-road bikers, resulting in a seizure of one. Attended alongside officers from the Roads Policing Unit near the M1 in Hemel Hempstead following reports of persons climbing out of a lorry. Sadly, recovered a deceased pet dog that had been left in a suitcase in rural Borehamwood without a registered microchip. Assisted officers from Cambridgeshire Police Rural Team to recover a stolen vehicle near Royston (Joint working with Cambridgeshire Police - Herts Connected) Seized a pit bike near Baldock as the rider was not qualified nor old enough to drive, a S59 Warning Notice was also issued. Attended a separate incident of hare coursing and seized two lurcher type dogs under the Hunting Act in Wheathampstead Interviewed a suspect for causing unnecessary suffering to four dogs in Colney Heath Came across an RTC in Hatfield that had just occurred whereby an uninvolved party decided to intervene, later threatening members of the public and our officer with an iron bar. With the threat of a Taser being deployed he sensibly dropped the weapon and surrendered, he was subsequently arrested and later issued with a Caution in custody. Located and seized a Shetland Pony on behalf of Devon and Cornwall Police near St Albans that had been stolen in July (Foal stolen from mother found 300 miles from home - BBC News) Attended a Road Traffic Collision in rural Ware whereby a car had rolled over, all four occupants ran away from the vehicle and into nearby fields, alongside our drone, the BCH Dog Unit, local officers and local land owners all four were located unharmed and arrested for multiple offences including, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Going Equipped to Steal and Possession of offensive weapon. |
