Positive Fly Tipping Result |
||||||
Good Afternoon
I am glad to report another positive outcome for East Herts Rural NPT in relation to a fly tipping offence in Gilston, East Herts this week.
The fly tipping incident was reported to Police by the landowner on the 18th August and landed with the East Herts Rural NPT for investigation.
The team got straight to work, in the waste on some cardboard was an address label linked to West London. The team managed to get hold of the owner and it transpired that their property had been subject to some building work. They advised that they had taken on someone for a garden clearance job and as part of their work they also organised the clearance of rubbish from the house. The homeowner provided us with a mobile number, this was checked and we got the details of a potential offender. This provided the team with a trip to North West London for a chat, the suspect wasn’t in but after receiving a handful of calls from the officers they decided it was best to call back.
The suspect provided their details and claimed that they had taken payment for the job but that they had organised a 3rd party to remove the waste from the property. They claimed that they had no idea where it had gone and assumed it was going to be disposed of correctly. They were advised that it was their responsibility to make sure the waste was disposed of properly, as once they took payment they accepted responsibility for it.
On the 1st September they attended the fly tipping location and accepted their involvement in the offence. They hired a van and collected up all of the waste and were also issued with a Community Resolution to attend an online littering course.
This was an excellent piece of investigative work by the team, this not only shows that we will investigate these types of offences when they are reported but also demonstrates to offenders that East Herts will not accept fly tipping and where possible we will do everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice.
Below is the area after the fly tip had been cleared away.
