Distraction Theft in St Albans City Centre

We are investigating a theft from person in St Albans City Centre, between 12:00pm and 14:00pm on Monday 20th October 2025. Victim went to withdraw money from the bank in the city centre and when victim was walking to the vehicle, the offender walked pass the victim and fell to the ground, complaining she’s in pain, they were then joined by the second offender, this was all part of a planned distraction. The victim helped the female up from the ground and checked if she was okay. The offender then said she was fine and walked off. The victim later realises the money is gone.

Tips

. Beware of strangers asking for DONATION/CHARITY, try to keep your distance.  

. Beware of your surrounding in crowded places and ATM

. Make sure you have your phone or large amount of cash secured in button or zipped pocket and close to you.

. Do use a money belt if you’re carrying a significant quantity of cash and purse that’s’ difficult to open. One that zips or snaps shut is best, and keep it closed and close to you

. Do carry bags in front of you or diagonally across your chest

. Cancel all bank Cards and call 101 when you realise your purse/phone have been stolen  

. Do not leave your purse in a shopping trolley, buggy or walker whiles shopping
