Keep your tools safe this winter

Tradesman/drivers are being offered advice on vehicle security to help keep tools safe.

Tool thefts tend to increase during the winter months, and many are stolen when left in vehicles overnight.

Tool thefts are currently lower than during the same period in 2024, however #Dacorum (42 offences) and East Herts (23) have had the most offences since 1 April.

If you can’t avoid leaving tools in a vehicle overnight, it's a good idea to mark them clearly with your name/company name and address using paint pens and seal with a clear lacquer spray. Alternatively, you can use a variety of other property marking systems. Items that are clearly marked are less desirable and more difficult to sell on.

You can also take photographs of valuable items, noting serial numbers and consider registering them online at a property register site.
