I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti Social Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. It has been a very busy week for Police officers starting the new year as we steamroll into 2026. This week, arrests have been made with several being charged, remanded and found guilty at court, banning orders have been given out and more vehicles being taken off the road. This week, Town Centre Officers have achieved the below;
A male was arrested for common assault after a physical altercation occurred at Costco. Town centre officers managed to trace the suspect who had fled the scene at the time of the incident and was subsequently arrested. As a result of this, the male was charged and remanded by Police and pled guilty to one count of common assault. Another conviction for the books.
Police had seized a van on Lytton way after finding out that it had no tax. The driver was reported for the offence and is due to appear in court where he may face a large fine and several points endorsed on his drivers licence. Needless to say, the driver will not get his motor back.
A male has been arrested for crack and heroin supply as well as possession of cannabis at the duck ponds next to town. Police had witnessed an exchange of drugs by the suspect. Police quickly stopped him before he could run and was arrested for the offences. The suspect now had an adult conditional caution after being charged by Police. Drugs are the cause for a lot of anti-social behaviour and by tackling drug dealers, we also tackle ASB.
Daniel Breckenridge has been arrested for three counts of theft after an arrest tasking was carried out by Police. Upon his arrest, it was also discovered that he was wanted by the courts for four counts of failure to appear. Breckenridge had been charged by Police and remanded to court whereby he was ordered to pay several fines as well as serve twenty weeks in prison.
Two males have been banned by Stevenage Borough Council and Indoor Market following verbal altercations with members of staff. Police had come across the incident and ejected them from the premises. In doing this, they were both given banning letters for their behaviour. Abuse to staff will not be tolerated and Police will deal with it at every opportunity in order to prevent further ASB.
George Bull has been arrested for several offences after Police responded to a call to Queensway regarding a drunk male causing issues in town. A bottle of whisky was found on Bull with the security tag still on it and upon seizing it, the bottle was traced back to a local store which confirmed that it was stolen. Bull was charged and remanded to court, whereby he pled guilty to two counts Assault Emergency worker after trying to headbutt one officer and kicking another in the leg, Section 4A public order and theft from a shop and is now on a suspended sentence.
Daniel O'Donnell had been arrested, charged and remanded by Police after being caught stealing multiple bottles of alcohol from a local supermarket. Upon his arrest, further enquires were completed whereby, it was confirmed that the suspect had stolen from another two stores. He pled guilty in court and was ordered to pay several fines.
As a result of these frequent updates, Police have attended several stores in Stevenage Town Centre and 9 Yards in order to sign them up to Herts Connected. In doing this, we are able to provide affected stores in the area results of our work and increase engagement with them. We look forward to share more good work in the coming future with you.
 Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.herts.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
