I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Anti Social Behaviour, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Stevenage Neighbourhood Policing Team have been busy yet again this week, making arrests, dealing with Anti-Social Behaviour and preventing/detecting crime. We want to share some good results which I will share below.
I had the privilege to host another Coffee with a Cop at the Frequency Café on the 17th. We were able to speak to various members of the public who shared with us what problems they were facing at the moment as well as what they want to see from Police. Coffee with a Cop is a great way for Police to get a better understanding regarding long term Anti-Social Behaviour issues that may affect you and what you would like to see from Police in the future. We look to host more of these events in the coming months.
A moped driver was given a ticket for Driving without Due Care and Attention after driving through a pedestrianised walkway through Stevenage Town Centre. They are due to appear in court in the coming months.
A male has been arrested for five counts of Shoplifting and five counts of breaching their Criminal Behaviour Order. These incidents came to Police attention after the suspect had attended Stevenage Town Centre and stole various items from stores for which he was already banned from. This was reported and swift action was taken to arrest the offender and deal with the crimes reported. The offender was charged, remanded and is currently on court bail with further updates to follow.
A suspect has been arrested for Breach of a Restraining Order, Section 4 Public Order and Criminal Damage after Town Centre Officers assisted with an arrest tasking. The male was wanted for Breach of a Restraining Order and upon attending the suspects address, he barricaded himself inside the address, threatening to stab and kill the officers. The siege was short-lived however as officers were able to arrest the suspect and take him down to custody for questioning. The suspect had also damaged the cell van upon transportation to custody and was arrested for this offence.
Operation Scootherts has got another two E-scooters of the streets this week as a part of an on-going effort to tackle anti-social riding on public roads and footpaths. All were taken away and crushed with the offenders being reported and will see prosecution at court which will include points and fines. Stevenage has the highest rate of seizures in the county with more to come.
Operation Hotspot continues through February with many Police Officers, SGT’s and PCSO’s giving up their free time to boost high visibility patrols in areas that are susceptible to high levels of Anti-Social Behaviour. This involves these officers giving up their free time, coming in on their days off to help tackle the long-term issues identified in these areas. We like to thank all those who have given up their rest days to help keep the town safe.
Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. The Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 aims to put victims first, giving power to local people and enabling professionals to find the best solutions for their local area. The act provides the police, local authorities and other local agencies with flexible tools and powers that they can use to respond quickly and effectively to antisocial behaviour. These include: - civil injunctions.
- criminal behaviour orders.
- public spaces protection orders.
- community protection notices.
- dispersal powers.
- closure powers.
The act also includes measures such as the Community Remedy and antisocial behaviour case reviews which empower victims and communities to have a say in the outcome of their reports and hold agencies to account. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.herts.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
