Two arrested following report of shoplifting in Borehamwood

Two people have been arrested following a report of shoplifting in Borehamwood.

Officers were on patrol for Operation Hotspot* on Saturday (28 February) when they received the report from Farm Foods in Borehamwood Shopping Park.

A 39 year old man from Enfield was arrested at the scene on suspicion of conspiracy to steal. Following further enquiries, he was later arrested on suspicion of cannabis production and possession of an offensive weapon. 

A 39 year old woman from Potters Bar was also arrested later that day on suspicion of conspiracy to steal, cannabis production, possession with intent to supply a class B drug (cannabis) and possession of an offensive weapon.

Both have been bailed while enquiries continue.

PC Joe Geeson, from the Borehamwood and Elstree Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We take reports of shoplifting seriously as we know this has a big impact on businesses as well as customers’ sense of safety.

“Large quantities of cannabis and cash have also been seized and I hope this reassures residents that we are working hard to take drugs off the streets. Cannabis can often be linked to other criminality so action like this is important.”

*Operation Hotspot provides extra foot patrols and increased visibility, on top of normal daily business. It targets specific areas which have been identified as crime and anti-social behaviour hotspots through an analysis of police data. It is funded by the government following a bid by the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office.
