Theft from Motor Vehicle - Dane End/ Whempstead

Dear Resident

Between 11:00pm Monday 7th September and 6:00am on Tuesday 8th September 2026, several vehicles in the area have been the subject of interference and/or theft of items from inside.

A suspect wearing a balaclava and grey tracksuit with a black rucksuck, has tried various door handles looking for unlocked vehicles, and stolen items where entry has been gained. His image has been captured on CCTV around the village.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Remove your satnav and holder and wipe away suction marks which could indicate that a satnav is stored in your vehicle.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them lying around, visible or in pockets in changing rooms where they could be taken. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers and steering wheel locks.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.

Secure number plates with anti-theft screws.
