Issued 02 April 2026

Previously we have been working on these issues in Hertford: reducing speeding and anti-social driving on the A414 into the town centre, and tackle drug use and anti-social behaviour in hotspot locations identified through data.

The Hertford Neighbourhood Policing Team as been working to tackle these issues using targeted policing operations, that includes both enforcement tactics and engagement with the public.

Action taken against speeding and anti social driving on the A414 and connecting routes:
• Action taken to reduce speeding and anti social driving on the A414, town centre and surrounding routes, with patrols focused on weekends.
• Officers responded to reports of dangerous and reckless driving, including speeding, careless driving and unsafe use of mopeds and motorcycles.
• Police attendance resulted in vehicles being stopped, drivers challenged and offences progressed, particularly during evening and late night hours.
• Supervisory oversight and continued tasking ensure an ongoing focus on enforcement, disruption of repeat behaviour and public reassurance.

Action taken on drug use and anti social behaviour in hotspot locations:
• Dedicated patrols carried out seven days a week during evenings, to address drug use and anti social behaviour. The ativity focused on Hartham Common, Fore Street, Mead Lane, Gascoyne Way, town centre car parks, retail areas and locations around Hertford East station.
• High visibility foot and vehicle patrols used to deter offending and disrupt ongoing nuisance behaviour.
• Police action included arrests, drug seizures, community resolutions, vehicle stops, dispersal of groups and intervention in incidents involving intoxication, begging and youth related disorder.
• Ongoing supervision and tasking in place to support sustained reduction and community reassurance.
